Sophie Bishop's Ellie Goulding Digipak analysis and response

This is Ellie Goulding's Halcyon Days album cover font and back. This photo to the left is the front cover, Ellie Goulding is in this photo, which shows her appearance is as much of the album as herself. She has an emotionless face, and has swooped her hair across the face, as if it has been frozen in the moment. This surreal edgy photo, adds to her image and brand. the obre effect added in editing, adds to her fun image.





The back cover of the album, has all of the titles of the songs in the album. The back also contains this obre effect, to complement the front cover. 

This photo is the single cover for Halcyon in the album, I am going to respond to this photo, but use the effects of the actual album cover.

I will now take a photo of my self, taken by Sophie Gordon, and edit it in the same way as the album is.

I have firstly placed my photograph, I decided to use,

 and altered the brightness, contrast, saturation, and vibrancy.

I have then used the gradient/ombre effect tool in a new layer, using a purple/blue and a pink, using the same colour scheme as the original. 

I have then used the erase tool, on the bore/gradient effect layer, so the face is clear like the original.

I have then added text, on a new layer, I have used a similar text as the original.

I am now creating the back cover, I have used the radient tool again, on the background using the same colour scheme.    I have also used a barcode, so it looks realistic.

I have written the whole track list as well, as the original and every album cover does.

I have sized the album cover, and added a bar between them with the title.

I am now adding the font, with the artists name and album title,  in the bar  in-between the front and back cover.






My response to Halcyon Days by Ellie Goulding

Taylor Swift Digipak

I have decided to re - create the cover for Taylor Swift's cover 'Red'.

When I took my own image, I decided to use a lighting studio, so I could have a dark and clear background.

I needed to use PhotoShop to edit my images as when I took my image my lighting was slightly off, which made my image and tiny bit blurred. Also Taylor's original album has text over the image, so I would need to add this when I edit.

I used costume of a black hat and used a red lipstick for my makeup.

I first put my own image into PhotoShop

Because the image on Taylor's is quite small, I had to crop the image a few times. Firstly I decided to crop all of the excess black area that I did not need. After this I had to crop the image to make it more into a square shape. I tried to copy the original as much as I could, so this meant cropping the majority of the hat and the bottom section of my hair.

Looking at Taylor's cover again I could see that I would need to change the hue, saturation and lighting. To do this I clicked on the image tab, which then gave me the option to click on adjustments to change the image.

I decided not to change the hue on the image as it made my skin quite pale, and this didn't make the image look right.

I changed the saturation to +24. Due to Taylor's hair being blonde and mine being slightly bleached, I had to higher the saturation to bring the blonde out. This effect also made my red lipstick more bright and bold.

On Taylor's album cover she has a shadow underneath her hat. Because of the lighting I used I needed to change the lighting to -26 for the shadow to show up more.

This is what the image looked like after I had finished the adjustments.

I then added another layer to the image. I added the word 'red' as that's the name of Taylor Swift's album.

I then added both of the layers together, so the text would become the top layer. I did this by right clicking between both layers and then clicking on create clipping mask.

After clicking create clipping mask, the text then overlapped my image. I then could select a colour for the background.

To create the colour of the background, I used a paint bucket and a colour picker. This allowed me to get the correct colour for the album.

I looked at different colours for the album. I did this so I could try and get the best match of colour.

I added a final layer to add Taylor Swift's name to the front of the album.

This is my final album cover.

Sophie Gordon - Hot Chip Remake

My Hot Chip remake for 'I feel Better' I created this video from using old footage and Final Cut Pro.
By creating this video I had to sync the band singing. I also tried to match my own video as much as I could to the original.

Sophie Bishop Mind map - What makes a successful music video?

Using Popplet, I have created a mind map, analysing three A2 level 4 music videos, on how they are successful. I have developed my analysis skills, as well as finding out how they music videos got such a high mark.

The shot I decided to screen shot is a long shot. This shot shows the relationship between the band and audience. The shot shows live tour clips.

The long shot shows the connection between black sabbath and their fans. 

This shows the huge audience enjoys and maybe worships the music. (From the cult like finger pointing and head banging.)

The video shows a successful band who have a massive following. It shows them as confident performers who have been in the industry for a long time, so know how to control a crowd. The personality comes across as moody, depressive, dark and sorrowful. I saw these personalities from the slow song and movement that came from the band and also the quiet movement-less crowd.

Crowd shows dedication and control as they just sit quietly and enjoy the music.

Close up shot to show the American flag. No members of the band, green day are involved within the shot I have selected, but I decided to screen shot this part of the music video as it showed relevance and meaning.

I felt the shot showed the American flag. (Relevance to the song title and lyrics) also by the flag being green it represented the name of the band. 

The video shows personality from the quite plain video. You're directed mainly to see the green American flag, this shows being slightly reckless as they are changing tradition and normality (from the traditional and average flag). From the video you can also see them being energetic, this could see them as young, free and control.

Hello kitty is a world wide brand, which started and mainly focused on in Japan. The Japanese dancer in the background show the meaning towards that in the song.

The personalty that is coming across from this video is a care free attitude, of someone who likes to be different and doesn't care about opinion. It shows Avril as being a wacky and weird person, this could be seen differently by different types for people. From example either being cool or being a freak, due to liking something out of her age range.

The shot shows a bird eye view angle within the music video. By using a birds eye view it allows the audience (viewers of the music video) to see a large selection of what is happening in the video. It shows how the band are the main focus and how the dedicated fans surround the fans in a swamp like manner. It can show the band are popular with huge a huge following.

The personalities seen are a group of confident young friends who want to be seen as reckless. They have a cocky and care free attitude. From the way they act it can be seen they feel to be above the law. Part of the video shows ungratefulness, that they believe they deserve to be in the lime light and have fame and fortune.
