Misfits TV series - influence - Sophie Bishop

Misfits uses the colour grading, we are aiming for. Blue/cool toned colours have been colour graded to the film. I should experiment with this tone of colour.

My response:
I have filmed a few second clip, and colour graded this on After Effects, altering the brightness, colour and contraste. I have then edited the before and after on Final cut pro.

Skins - influence - Sophie Bishop

This is the Skins series 3 trailer, the camera and editing in skis is always really attractive. It seems as Glue (another series I have analysed) has been influenced by skins, it also uses slow motion shots, and low key lighting. This is influencing the way we want our music video to look, surreal and trippy. The first long shot of the characters running from lighting to dark in a low angle is really exciting, and sets up mystery, which would be great to achieve in our music video. Also there is a lot of shallow focus sued in Skins, to focus attention on the subject matter. The colours used also also interesting, the red of means anger, which is a key theme and image in our music video, so we could some how incorporate this.

Influence - Glue - Sophie Bishop

This is the trailer to a channel 4 series Glue, the trailer is really artsy, and uses lighting editing and camera techniques to create a surreal atmosphere. It uses plenty of closeups, and uses low key lighting, to create a surreal atmosphere which is what we would like to do. Using editing the series uses a lot of surreal/trippy music with synthesia of slow motion shots, or objects falling. Similar to what we want to do with a bottle/object smashing. The whole concept is also very trippy, similar to skins. It uses pull focus and shallow focus, so it is appealing to the eye. We should remember the techniques and space when filming our test footage 2, in order to have a really successful style.

Fargo TV series - inspiration for our music video, camera, editing and lighting - Sophie Bishop

The main character, had a similar image as our main character, towards the middle of the series. Self loathing, dark, mysterious and angry.

the lighting is dark, when it is needed, creating a dark creepy atmosphere. The editing is fast paced at time, along with the soundtrack. The camera techniques are interesting, a lot of P.O.V shots are used.
The series is colour graded, a blue under tone is used to create a mysterious and dark atmosphere.

This will influence our camera techniques, so we will use some more P.OV shots in order to create diversity within our camera shot types. I am also influenced by the colour, so we will use cooler tones of colour in our video.

Bastille influence - Sophie Gordon

  • Cold toned lighting
  • Dark
  • Camera pans when following a character
  • Blue undertone to the video
  • Shadow
  • Colour is quite filtered

Storyboard

Our story board, presents our structure of our music vide. Since this we have added a few more shots to our animatic. We have annotated each post it note, to show what shot we are using and our subject matter. This has allowed us to gather our assets for our shoot day. It also gives us a clear idea of our narrative/ concept music video structure.
